Net Neutrality

Net Neutrality is the concept of there being little to no restrictions on the internet. No matter who has made a website, they are all the same. Anyone can put anything on the internet if they please. Sort of like, "the first amendment on the internet," as I have been hearing quite a lot while researching information on this.

People like you and me should support the idea of net neutrality.I feel as if internet providers would support this because if not, maybe less people will use the internet. Who wants to pay for every website that you visit? I rather look things up in the newspaper, or a book than eventually spending thousands just to look at an article on say the war in Iraq for example. Businesses on the other hand, such as owners of busy websites will definitely be for it. Any way they can get money is okay with them, right?

In simplest terms, our first amendment would be violated if restrictions were put on websites. It is our American right to be able to have free speech. In today's society, the internet is how many people express themselves and their thoughts. What happens when there are restrictions? Well, that free speech, no longer is free. Anyone should be able to have a website, or look at a website. Whether it is a worker at CBS or my father creating a website, it is still just a website, they are all technically the same thing. I am not fond of the idea of paying for websites when people already pay for internet service monthly. As a college student, like most I do not have much money to spend whenever I want and the amount I use the internet for school work would definitely not be affordable if I had to pay to see specific things.

This poster is supporting Net Neutrality. Without neutrality, the entire world wide web could look like a bunch of fill in the blanks if I am talking in extremities. No one wants to pay for more things, especially when we already pay a "small monthly fee," already for internet service.

This is a drawn cartoon also supporting neutrality. If the internet becomes censored, as this artist agrees, we violate the first amendment.

After researching quite a bit, the FCC was brought up periodically. The Federal Communications Commission is a government run program that censors the radio, television, and even telephone communications. The FCC should not even be involved with the internet because it is our right to put anything out on the internet. But on the other hand, did the radio start off like that, did the television start off like that? If so, we may not be headed in a good direction. To my surprise, i found an article that is explaining that the FCC is actually pro neutrality.
